How do I become a referee?

Try Tag Rugby is always on the lookout for good quality referees. Whether you are a current Tag Rugby player, Rugby League or Rugby Union referee, Touch Rugby referee, or someone looking for a new challenge, we would love to hear from you!

Refereeing Tag Rugby is a great way to get fit, stay involved and have plenty of fun. We can be flexible around your work or playing commitments. You have the opportunity to referee from as little as one game per week up to seven days per week. If weekday evenings are no good or you just want to referee some additional games then we also need referees for our one-day tournaments.

Try Tag Rugby to hold regular practical referee workshops and classroom-based forums, for referees to ask rule questions, gain knowledge & experience and liaise with other Tag Rugby referees to gain greater consistency across the board. Once you’re a trained Try Tag Rugby referee and you start to referee regularly, you will also have the opportunity to referee Tag Rugby International matches and be eligible for the many rewards we have available for our referees.

You can start in the social grade and depending on progress potentially work your way up to refereeing Super League and International Tag Rugby!

New referees start out on £10 per 40-minute game and can increase this up to £14.50 a game the more they referee!

There are also increased levels of pay for referees who complete a full season. Referees typically receive payment by bank transfer 3-4 days after the games.

If you would like to register for one of our upcoming referee practical sessions then you can do so here. Alternatively, you can find out more by getting in touch via Referee@trytagrugby.com
